“Hody” represents the greatest kind of a festival in the South Moravia. Every village holds its own “hody” every year at the same date which depends on the saint to whom a local church is dedicated. The first evidence that the festival is drawing near is bringing “mája”. It means a high tree carried by young local men from a forest, then cleaned of its bark except for its uppermost part, which is afterwords decorated with ribbons. In the evening, all strong local men from the village gather in its center and erect this tree by their hands.
The festival lasts for three days and three nights when all people dance and sing till the morning. In this performance you can see dances typical for the region of Podluží – “vrtěná”, “hošije” and “verbuňk”.
